Man gets 15 years for sex offenses

WARREN

David I. Griffin, 47, of North Mecca Street, Cortland, was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to 11 sex offenses against a young female from 2007 to 2013.

Griffin pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to two counts of rape, three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, five counts of sexual battery and one count of gross sexual imposition. The girl was 12 when the first offense occurred. The locations were in Cortland and Warren, prosecutors said.

Griffin will be required to register as a sex offender every 90 days for the rest of his life after he leaves prison.

Man faces charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a man tried to run Monday after he was pulled over as part of a fight call.

Adrian German, 23, of High Street in Warren, is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, resisting arrest and obstruction of official business. He was driving a car and was pulled over about 12:30 p.m. at Oregon Avenue and Tracy Lane. A caller to 911 said German was arguing with a woman nearby and had a handgun.

Officers searched him, and when they did, he tried to run away but was tackled before he got far.

Road closing

WEST FARMINGTON

Ensign Road between Painesville Warren Road and Bradford Corners East Road in Farmington Township will be closed today for an emergency culvert replacement.

The recommended detour route is southeast on Painesville Warren Road; south on Phalanx Mills Herner Road; west on Geauga Portage Easterly Road; and north on Ensign Road.

Break-in probed

LIBERTY

Police are investigating a burglary and breaking and entering Monday on Naylor Lloyd Road. Residents said they awoke to a banging sound and saw an unidentified, shirtless white male standing on the rear deck. A resident chased the man but was unable to detain him.

Police determined that the man had stolen $15 and a set of keys from an unlocked Jeep parked in the driveway. The keys were to the resident’s motor home, parked next to the garage. A police report states that the suspect ransacked the motor home and broke a window.

Death investigated

Officials are investigating whether a fall caused the death of Ryan Giambattista, 23, of Boardman. Police found Giambattista’s body Saturday at the P&LE rail yard on Broad Street.

Detectives Jeff Lewis and Emma Brenoel will handle the investigation. The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office said it could not yet release information about the cause of death.
