City police recover pot, cocaine in 2 busts


YOUNGSTOWN — Police seized one pound of marijuana in a traffic stop Tuesday and 14 bags of crack cocaine while serving a search warrant.

Malcolm North, 34, of South Rockview Avenue, is in the Mahoning County jail on a charge of trafficking in drugs after he was pulled over about 11:20 a.m. by officers Mike Anderson and Jeshaila Dunkle for excessive window tint at West Earle and Glenwood avenues.

Reports said police found marijuana fragments on North's shirt and asked him to step out of his car, but he refused for several minutes.

When North got out of the car he told police he had marijuana and police found it in a shoe box in the back seat.

Members of the Vice Squad serving a search warrant about 5:06 p.m. at a 708 Miller St. and found the crack cocaine, along with a digital scale and a bag of marijuana.

Arrested on a charge of possession of drugs/crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia was Eugene Matthews, 29, of Miller Street.

Matthews is also in the county jail.
