Tapia, Marabell lead Scrappers past Lowell

LOWELL, MASS.

Emmanuel Tapia had two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to an 8-3 victory over the Lowell Spinners in Monday’s New York-Penn League game at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.

Connor Marabell added three hits, including one of Mahoning Valley’s seven doubles, and scored twice, while Sam Haggerty tripled, doubled, scored a run and drove in two runs for the Scrappers (8-15).

Johan Puello (1-1) pitched 22/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out two and issuing two of Mahoning Valley’s 13 walks. Leandro Linares started and lasted 31/3 innings, giving up two runs on one hit and eight walks.

Mahoning Valley is fifth in the six-team Pinckney Division, nine games behind Williamsport (17-6).

Jake Cosart (1-2) started and got the loss for Lowell (14-10), giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks.

Victor Acosta and Chad De La Guerra each had two hits and a RBI for the Spinners.

The NYPL is off today due to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game.

On Wednesday, Mahoning Valley will play at Eastwood Field for the first time since July 6 when it begins a three-game series against the Auburn Doubledays at 7:05 p.m.
