Grohl says injury made Foos stronger

NEW YORK

Even though Dave Grohl has a broken foot and has been reduced to performing from a chair, he insists his injury has not set his band back, but strengthened it.

“I think these have been the best shows the Foo Fighters have ever done. I think because of this situation and because of the challenge of just getting onstage to do the shows, the shows are more passionate, they’re more energetic,” Grohl said.

“When the audience sees me in that chair, they realize we’re all in this together,” he added.

Grohl fell onstage in Sweden last month and fractured his foot. He said he initially didn’t feel any pain: He had a cast put on his leg during the show, and he finished the performance. Days later, he underwent surgery, and the band canceled the rest of its European tour.

Grohl, a Warren native, said he had been planning that show for more than a year; the concert date marked the 20th anniversary of the Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut album.

The band has about 50 shows scheduled through November, including an Aug. 25 show at First Niagara Pavilion, near Pittsburgh.

50 Cent files for bankruptcy protection

HARTFORD, CONN.

The rapper 50 Cent, known for the album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” has filed for bankruptcy.

The artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson III, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Hartford on Monday, days after a jury ordered him to pay $5 million in an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit. He owns a 50,000-square-foot mansion in nearby Farmington.

The filing lists both the assets and liabilities for the rapper and actor as between $10 million and $50 million and indicates his debts are primarily consumer and not business related.

The filing comes after a New York jury on Friday ordered Jackson to pay $5 million to a woman who said he acquired a video she made with her boyfriend, added himself as a crude commentator and posted it online without her permission.

The jury this week was scheduled to deliberate on possible further, punitive damages in Lastonia Leviston’s invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against Jackson. But the filing may put the trial on hold. Jackson did not appear as scheduled Monday to testify about his finances because of the bankruptcy filing, his lawyer said.

“Mr. Jackson’s business interests will continue unaffected in the ordinary course during the pendency of the Chapter 11 case,” attorney William A. Brewer III said in a statement. “This filing for personal bankruptcy protection permits Mr. Jackson to continue his involvement with various business interests and continue his work as an entertainer.”

Underwood’s baby gets locked in car

NASHVILLE

New mother Carrie Underwood called her brother-in-law to the rescue over the weekend during a frightening mom moment.

The country star tweeted about the incident Saturday, writing “When your dogs manage to lock themselves, all your stuff & the baby in the car & you have to break a window to get in. #WhatAreThe-Chances”.

Her publicist, Jessie Schmidt, said Monday it happened very fast and no one was hurt.

Underwood tweeted that her brother-in-law broke the window to unlock the car.

Underwood is back on tour after giving birth to Isaiah in February, the first child for the former ‘American Idol’ winner and her husband, NHL player Mike Fisher.
