YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested two people on possession-of-heroin charges and a third on a charge of possession of cocaine during separate traffic stops over the weekend for improper turns.

Norman Macias, 41, of Fowler, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin about 12:20 a.m. Sunday after he was pulled over for making an improper turn from Lauderdale Avenue to Logan Avenue. He was taken into custody for driving under suspension and a bag of heroin was found in his pockets when he was searched.

Just before midnight Saturday, Brisco Huff, 58, of Youngstown, was pulled over for an improper turn on South Avenue and he was also taken into custody because he had no valid license. When he was searched, police found eight small bags of suspected crack cocaine and he was taken to the jail on a charge of possession of cocaine.

About 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Billy Kalogeras was taken into custody on a charge of possession of heroin after he was found at Elm Road and Gypsy Lane with four used syringes and a bag of heroin he tried to hide.

Traffic stop leads to 2 drug arrests

A traffic stop Friday on Wilson Avenue led to two drug-related arrests.

Officers found 17.6 grams of suspected marijuana, 5.8 grams of suspected heroin, 53 unit doses of suspected LSD, 21.5 grams of suspected hash and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, a police report states.

The driver, Nicholas Hovey, 24, of Campbell, and the vehicle’s passenger, Angelina Soto, 23, of Campbell are being held without bond at Mahoning County Justice Center until they are arraigned at Campbell Municipal Court today. Both Hovey and Soto face charges of possession of marijuana,drugs and drug paraphernalia. Hovey also faces improper license-plate display, driving under suspension and failure to produce driver’s license.

Pleas of not guilty

WARREN

Not-guilty pleas were entered and bond of $10,000 was set Monday in Warren Municipal Court for William I. Jones, 18, of Vine Street Northeast, charged with carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated menacing and discharging firearms as a result of an argument that police said led to Jones firing a handgun at a house on Iddings Avenue Southeast 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Jones was among two carloads of people who arrived in the 200 block of Iddings to confront an Iddings resident, 26, over an earlier incident involving Jones taking a beer from the refrigerator of the Iddings resident, who lives with Jones’ sister.

The Iddings resident said he challenged Jones over him taking his beer, told Jones to leave and threw him to the floor when he would not. There were no injuries.

Facing charges

GIRARd

Police arrested Robert Johnson, 21, and Lequan Gibson, 19, both of Warren on Saturday on receiving stolen property charges.

Officers found a vehicle parked on Abbey Street that contained two handguns as well as property reported stolen from a home on Morris Avenue in Niles, according to a police report. Residents reported seeing Gibson and Johnson in the vehicle.

Gibson and Johnson were questioned at the Girard Police Department and then released; they will be arraigned today in Girard Municipal Court.

Road closings

GIRARD

East Liberty Street in Girard between state Route 422 and Marshall Road at the Girard bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. to midnight Thursday for a fireworks presentation at the Mount Carmel Festival.

The recommended detour route is south on state Route 422, west on state Route 80, northwest on Salt Springs-Youngstown Road, and northeast on West Liberty Street.

Robbery reported

BOARDMAN

Township police are investigating a case in which two people reportedly were robbed at gunpoint outside Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market St.

The victims, employees at a store in the mall, reported late Saturday that two men grabbed them from behind, demanded money and one brandished a gun at them after the victims left the building from the east side.

One victim said she dropped a deposit bag containing $3,500 when the men demanded money.

A witness told police that she saw two men running down an alleyway and get into a vehicle driven by a third person.

Driving citations

BOARDMAN

A township man was cited after he was caught driving while under six active driver’s license suspensions.

Jonathan Hilson, 25, of Golfview Drive, was cited for possession of marijuana, marked lanes, display of plates and twice for driving under suspension after a traffic stop early Friday on Shields Road near Market Street.

Police reportedly found what they believed to be marijuana and cocaine in the vehicle.

Woman is charged with felonious assault

BOARDMAN

A township woman faces charges of felonious assault and felony domestic violence after an incident in which she reportedly assaulted her husband and damaged his car.

Police arrested Jennifer Roupe, 41, at her Salinas Trail home Sunday morning. Her husband told police that she hit his car with a mop, scratched it with a trim saw, tried to cut him with a knife and struck him in the face with the saw during an argument.

He reportedly admitted keying her car.

She was taken to the Mahoning County jail without bond pending a court appearance.
