Boardman police charge man with burglary, child endangering
BOARDMAN
A man faces felony charges of burglary, child endangering, and fleeing and eluding after a police chase through a township neighborhood.
The child endangering and fleeing and eluding charges stem from Steven Direnzo, 43, of Lightner Place, reportedly fleeing from members of the U.S. Marshals task force Monday and leaving his 4-year-old grandson in the car while fleeing on foot, police report.
Direnzo reportedly led officers on a chase down Lynn Mar Avenue, Lemont Drive, Mathews Road and then "entered the roundabout at Sheridan traveling in the wrong direction, nearly striking several vehicles, including [a member] of the Poland Village Police Department," according to a police report.
He then reportedly crashed into a curb and yard on Sheridan Road at Oles Avenue, then ran away on foot. Officers eventually caught him.
The reason for the pursuit was a burglary warrant and parole violation.
Direnzo was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
