Woman posts bond

WARREN

A Cortland woman posted $5,000 bond in Warren Municipal Court and was released from the Trumbull County Jail on Monday on a felony robbery charge, accused of stealing two tops from the Kohl’s store in Howland, 2350 Niles-Cortland Road.

Howland police said Barbara F. Smith, 53, of Ivy Hill Circle pushed a store security officer in the store parking lot in an attempt to get to her car after the security officer accused her of stealing two tops, at 1:51 p.m. Sunday.

After a second struggle with Smith near Smith’s car, a male security guard arrived to help. Once inside the store, Smith pulled the two shirts from under her top. They were valued at $74, Howland police said.

Man turns self in

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a man turned himself in about 9:35 a.m. Sunday at the Mahoning County jail, 110 Fifth Ave., for breaking a window at a Wick Avenue church while there was a service going on.

Clifton Jennings, 52, told police he was homeless, and he broke the window because he wanted to go to jail. Reports said after he broke the window at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., he walked to the county jail because he did not want police officers to hurt him, reports said. As an officer talked to Jennings in the lobby of the jail, another officer was sent to check the church for a broken window and found one. Reports said the caretaker of the church said the window was broken while people were inside.

Jennings was arraigned in municipal court on a misdemeanor count of criminal damaging Monday. His bond was set at $7,500.
