Man arraigned in baseball bat beating death

YOUNGSTOWN — A homeless man is in the Mahoning County jail on $50,000 bond after he was arraigned in municipal court today for beating another homeless man last week with a baseball bat.

Richard Mansfield, 49, is charged with felonious assault for the beating, which came after an argument at the tent city of homeless people, said City Prosecutor Dana Lantz said.

Lantz said Mansfield and the victim were snorting drugs and drinking when they began arguing.

Mansfield said at his arraignment that he has no home but a tent.
