Motorists will have a smoother ride on four Mercer County roads after completion of a construction project that is scheduled to start soon, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced.
The project will resurface:
Roemer Boulevard in Farrell from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (Route 718) to New Castle Avenue (Route 518).
Walnut Street (Route 3018) from West Main Street (Route 518) in Sharpsville to Tamarack Drive in South Pymatuning Township.

Hazen Road (Route 3016) from Forker Boulevard/South 10th Street (Route 3021) to Buhl Farm Drive/South Mercer Avenue (Route 3025) in Sharpsville and Hermitage.
Work will include milling and paving along with updated drainage, curb ramps, guide rails and pavement markings. The project also will install new loop sensors and pedestrian push buttons at traffic signals.
The contractor is Kirila Contractors Inc. of Brookfield. The contract cost is $1,647,000, which is to be paid entirely with state funds. This project is made possible by Act 89, the state’s new transportation plan.
Work is scheduled to begin Monday, weather permitting, and to be completed by Oct. 23.
No detours are anticipated, but motorists will encounter traffic-lane restrictions controlled by flaggers.
