Mr. and Mrs. Lee S. Merlo of Austintown, the parents of Nick Merlo of Cincinnati, are announcing the engagement of their son and Nicole Marotta of Cincinnati. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gino Marotta of Seven Hills, Ohio.

A 1 p.m. ceremony Aug. 29 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Independence, Ohio, will unite the couple in marriage. Invitations are being extended for the wedding and a reception at St. Michael’s Woodside Party Center in Broadview Heights, Ohio.

The bride-elect earned a master’s degree in microbiology from Miami University of Ohio. She is employed as a microbiologist for Smithfield Foods in Springdale, Ohio.

The prospective groom earned a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Youngstown State University. He is employed as an application analyst for The Kroger Co. in Blue Ash, Ohio.
