Police arrested a man about 8:50 p.m. Thursday after reports said he beat a woman throughout the day and held her down and threatened her when police were at the home earlier.
Officers were called to the 400 block of West Glenaven Avenue for a report of a fight in the street where a man was hitting a woman. Neighbors told them which home the couple lived in but when police knocked, they heard no one inside and after waiting for several minutes they left.
When police were called back, the woman said a man later identified as Jonathan Chism, 27, had been beating her and when police came the first time, he held her down on the floor and told her if she made any noise he would kill her.
The woman’s father told police he tried to stop the beating but that Chism pointed a gun at him and the father walked away.
Police found Chism at West Glenaven and Rosedale avenues. When they searched him they found a pellet gun that looked like a real gun, reports said. Chism was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of domestic violence, aggravated menacing and unlawful restraint.
