BURLINGTON, VT.

Once again, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers failed to escape the first inning without trailing.

The result was another lopsided loss, an 8-1 defeat on Friday to the Vermont Lake Monsters (8-12). It was the Scrappers’ 14th loss in 20 games.

Starter Jared Robinson (0-2) took the loss, giving up three runs in his four-and-two-thirds innings on the mound. Robinson allowed six hits while walking three and striking out two.

Robinson was in trouble after the Lake Monsters’ first at-bat as Richie Martin led off with a triple. After Steven Pallares walked, Martin scored on a fielder’s choice by Mickey White.

White came home for a 2-0 lead on Seth Brown’s one-out single.

The Scrappers (6-14) sliced the lead in half in the third inning when Silento Sayles led off with a single, stole second and third base, and scored on Mark Mathias’ sacrifice fly.

But the Monsters scored twice in the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead, then added a run in the seventh inning and three in the eighth.
