State OKs funds for new Poland schools
POLAND
The Ohio School Facilities Commission on Thursday approved more than $193 million in state funding for school-construction projects, including $7,143,557 for the Poland School District.
The Poland Board of Education previously had decided to participate in the state program that helps districts build new facilities. The school district’s share of the estimated cost to build new kindergarten- through fifth-grade and sixth- through eighth-grade buildings is roughly $30 million.
The school district is asking voters to approve a bond issue in November.
Traffic patterns change on bridge
CANFIELD
Traffic patterns are changing as the replacement and reconstruction of the U.S. Route 224 bridge over state Route 11 continues.
That began at 8 p.m. Thursday with eastbound traffic now expanded to two lanes of through traffic while westbound traffic will continue to have one lane of traffic. The traffic is being shifted onto the newly constructed southbound side of the bridge.
This new traffic pattern will continue until further notice as the $6.5 million project continues to reconstruct and widen the 224 bridge over Route 11. The work also includes widening Raccoon Road at 224 and the Route 11 southbound ramp to 224.

Police reports said a homeless man was hospitalized after he was beaten with a baseball bat Wednesday.
Officers were called to the makeshift tent city underneath the Fifth Avenue bridge about 6:05 p.m. and found a 49-year-old man lying on a set of railroad tracks bleeding from the head.
Reports said two witnesses told officers the victim was beat with a baseball bat by someone they know. A bat was found nearby and taken for evidence.
The victim and a witness were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, although reports did not say why the witness was taken to the hospital. Reports noted the victim and one of the witnesses appeared to be very drunk.
Warren seeks halt to injection wells
WARREN
Warren City Council has approved a resolution asking that Gov. John Kasich place a moratorium on establishment of additional brine-injection wells in Trumbull County.
The resolution is similar to one the county commissioners approved last month.
The county has 19 injection wells, the most in Ohio, and 75 percent of the waste involved comes from outside of Ohio, Warren’s resolution says.
