Man pleads guilty to 2012 hazing charges

YOUNGSTOWN — One of nine people charged with hazing pledges to a Youngstown State University fraternity in early 2012 entered guilty pleas today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Shirley Christian accepted pleas of no contest to two misdemeanor charges of hazing by Wade Hampton Jr. 28, and found him guilty.

Sentencing will be 2:30 p.m. July 24.

Prosecutors are recommending probation.

The charges stem from the repeated beating of two pledges to the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Hampton had originally been charged with felonious assault.

Two other defendants in the case still face trial, which is set for later this month.
