Man indicted for June shooting

YOUNGSTOWN
A man who had an attempted-murder charge bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury earlier this week was indicted Thursday on a lesser charge of felonious assault.
Richard Sutherland, 42, of Helena Avenue, also was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with firearm specifications in the June 2 shooting of Eric VanCobb, 35, at a West Indianola Avenue home.
VanCobb was shot in the spine and is paralyzed. Testimony at Sutherland’s preliminary hearing this week in municipal court said VanCobb was shot during a drug deal that went awry at the home.
The grand jury also indicted Daniel Boask, 24, on a charge of obstruction of justice related to the case on allegations of impeding the investigation.

Melissa A. Berry, 32, South Meridian Road, possession of heroin, possession of drugs, possession of drug-abuse instruments, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Melissa Patterson, 27, Fourth Street, Struthers, receiving stolen property and obstruction of justice.
Archie Stanford, 29, Maple Avenue, possession of cocaine.
