Poland North Elementary School celebrated its annual Fun Day on June 9. Students got to take part in various activities stationed around the school for the last time at North due to the upcoming reorganization of Poland Schools.

Some of the activities included a dunk tank manned by various staff and parent volunteers, a game of tug-of-war over a ball pit made of a small blow-up pool filled with plastic balls and beach balls, a blow-up bounce-a-round to jump in, indoor crafts and a treat from Kona Ice following a break students took for lunch.

One of the favorite activities of students and staff was principal Stephanie Mateja taking her turn as volunteer for the dunk tank.

Second-grade teacher Stephanie Hoover said she really liked that North had days like this at the end of every year to appreciate all of the hard work done throughout the school year.

“It’s just fun — I enjoy my time with the kids,” Hoover said.

Dunk tank volunteer Bob Slaven said despite the chilly feel to the day, he was having fun being dunked during Fun Day. They filled the tank with warm water so they could still have a dunk tank without freezing the volunteers.

“It’s a lot of fun with them,” Slaven said. “The kids like it, anyways.”
