UPDATE | Power to restored by 11:30 p.m. for some in Springfield Township/Columbiana area
NEW SPRINGFIELD — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident in Springfield Township that shut down state Route 170 between East Garfield Road and Dixon Road in Columbiana County this evening and disrupted electrical service.
Springfield police got a call at 5:52 p.m. that a driver lost control of a vehicle and knocked down a utility pole. The driver, who was not identified, was uninjured, but the accident caused outages for more than 500 customers in Springfield and Beaver townships in Mahoning County and Unity and Middleton townships in Columbiana.
Ohio Edison sent out a crew for repairs and maintenance. Power was expected to be restored by 11:30 p.m., an OE spokesman said.
