Five union managers receive new title, pay rate at Trumbull jail

WARREN

Five employees of the Trumbull County Jail received new titles and an increase in pay in a recent reorganization.

Eric Shay, Nicole O’Brien, Tracy Wix, Danny Lester and John Buch now all have the rank of lieutenant instead of assistant warden and a pay increase of $3.28 per hour.

Sheriff Thomas Altiere said the new rank was a way to compensate employees who have assumed additional supervisory duties because of the decision to leave two other jobs vacant.

Don Guarino was chief deputy and the top superviser at the jail until he left at the end of 2013. A jail secretary also was not replaced when she left, Altiere said.

The five will earn a base rate of $26.26 per hour each, compared with their former rate of $22.98.

Shay is responsible for quality assurance, such as compliance with rules and regulations; Lester is responsible for jail security; Wix is day-turn commander; Buch is afternoon commander; and O’Brien is midnight commander. Wix also is responsible for the jail’s computer system, which is being replaced.

The five are represented by the Ohio Patrolman’s Benevolent Association.
