Power to be restored in Springfield Township area later this evening

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Township police have shut down state Route 170 between East Garfield Road and Dixon Road in Columbiana County.

Police got a call at 5:52 p.m. that a driver lost control of the vehicle and knocked down a utility pole. The driver was uninjured but the crash caused outages for more than 500 customers in Springfield, Beaver, Unity and Middleton. Ohio Edison sent out a crew for repairs and maintenance. Power is expected to be restored by 8:30 p.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
