Contract renewed

YOUNGSTOWN

Carmelita Douglas’ contract as executive director of Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority has been renewed through June 2018 by a unanimous vote of the authority’s board. “Carmelita has consistently demonstrated strong leadership” and “has positioned the housing authority to continue to deliver a high level of service to our residents,” said David Turner, board chairman.

The authority has achieved 100 percent occupancy, obtained Veterans’ Affairs supportive housing vouchers and received an Ohio Auditor of State Award. Douglas was appointed as executive director in May 2012.

Douglas previously had served YMHA as a drug-elimination program director, grant-application writer, program-planning and monitoring administrator, director of special projects, director of internal audit and interim executive director.

She has a bachelor’s degree in health education from Youngstown State University.

Facing charges

AUSTINTOWN

A Warren man who filmed his arrest has a trial scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 5.

Jason Morrison of Selkirk Bush Road in Warren was charged with misdemeanor aggravated menacing and failure to disclose one’s personal information in March after he said he was filming cars at an intersection for an experiment. He later was stopped by the authorities and did not provide his identification to an Austintown officer. He was filming throughout his interaction with authorities.

Morrison testified during an evidence hearing in May, but Judge David A. D’Apolito denied suppressing evidence and set his trial for Aug. 5 in Austintown.

Pavlik case reset

NILES

Kelly R. Pavlik, 33, former world-champion middleweight boxer, appeared in Niles Municipal Court on Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of assault and disorderly conduct, but his case was reset to 8:30 a.m. Aug. 19. Pavlik and his attorney, Damian Billak, met with Niles Prosecutor Terry Swauger in Swauger’s office. This was his second pretrial hearing in the case.

Pavlik, of Sugarbush Drive, Canfield, was charged at the Pine Tree Place plaza in April after police said he was involved in a fight in the parking lot during the Foo Fighters concert in the plaza.
