June local auto sales up 5.6 percent

June auto sales in the Mahoning Valley were up 5.6 percent over last June’s sales.
A total of 6,532 new and used vehicles were sold – up from 6,187 sales last year, according to data released Wednesday by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
The data are compiled from titles processed at county title departments by the final business day each month.
New sales for the month were up 4.6 percent over last June, and used sales were up 6.3 percent.
Leading local dealers were Greenwood Chevrolet of Austintown with 311 new and used-vehicle sales; Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman with 286 sales; and Stadium GM Superstore of Salem with 237 sales.
The Chevrolet Equinox, typically a top-seller, was the No. 1 seller for new vehicles. The crossover had 276 sales, according to the ADAEO. That’s up from 127 sales last June for the Equinox.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 came in second for new-vehicle sales with 142 compared with 103 last June.
The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze came in third place with 136 sales compared with 240 new sales last year – a 43.3 percent drop.
For used sales, the top three sellers were the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The Cruze was the fifth-best seller for used sales with 82 sales this June compared with 50 sales last June.
The top three new makes here were Chevrolet, Ford and Honda. The top three used makes were Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge in June.
