Hotelier may serve whole sentence in jail
AUSTINTOWN
Hotelier Sebastian Rucci could serve his full 30-day jail sentence at the Mahoning County jail.
The businessman operating California Palms, Suites and Hotel had asked for a motion hearing on requesting the sentence be changed to house arrest. He was in Mahoning County Area Court here Wednesday and Judge David A. D’Apolito took the request under advisement.
Rucci also had filed a motion for early release Monday, but that was denied the same day.
His jail sentence of 30 days began at noon July 1 on guilty verdicts from a jury trial on four counts of being a keeper of place where intoxicating liquors are sold in violation of state law. He was also convicted on an additional count of keeper of place and two counts of illegal sale of alcohol in 2014 cases involving the Go Go Girls Cabaret.
The former cabaret and the new hotel are at the same location, the corner of 1051 N. Canfield-Niles Road and 5455 Clarkins Drive.

A woman claimed she had given Howell a ride, and he threatened to kill her, choked her and took her purse as they were in a driveway in the 400 block of Clearmount Avenue. The woman had between $300 and $400 in her purse, reports said.
Howell was taken into custody Monday. Assistant City Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno said Howell was ruled delinquent in juvenile court in 2009 for a robbery and kidnapping. Court papers said he and another person who was a juvenile at the time had robbed a Belmont Avenue restaurant.
