Ex-Gov. Ted Strickland raises more than $1M for U.S. Senate bid between April and June

YOUNGSTOWN — Ex-Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat running in 2016 election for the U.S. Senate, raised $1 million between April and June.

That’s more than he did in the year’s first quarter, but significantly less that U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, the Republican incumbent.

Portman raised $2.9 million in the second quarter. That’s on top of the $2.75 million he received in the first quarter. Portman has more than $10 million cash on hand.

Strickland raised more money between April and June than he did during the year’s first quarter in which he collected $671,073. He has $1.2 million cash on hand.

The amount Strickland raised is close to what other Democratic candidates in competitive Senate races are receiving, according to his campaign.

During the first quarter, Cincinnati Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld, also seeking the Democratic nomination for Senate, raised $757,043, more than Strickland. Sittenfeld’s campaign expects as early Friday to provide how much money it raised in the second quarter.
