A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
June 30
Burglary: To a garage in the 2300 block of Shetland Lane, from which a lawn mower, a leaf blower and weed trimmer were stolen. The loss came to $2,050.
July 4
Animal complaint: Police answered a call regarding a dog continually barking in the 7100 block of Oak Drive.
BOARDMAN
July 2
Theft: A man reportedly took a $60 trash can from a South Avenue car dealership.
Theft: A man age 25 to 30 reportedly stole a $51 battery from Vapor Express, 5056 Youngstown-Poland Road.
Theft: Esta M. Landis, 31, of West Pine Lake Road, Columbiana, was charged in the theft of $145 worth of property, including a dress, from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Vandalism: A man told police that while driving near Glenwood Avenue, someone tossed a gallon of milk on his car, which nearly caused the motorist to crash.
Theft: Kevin W. Weaver, 43, of Union Ridge Road, Negley, was charged in the theft of a pen knife and pencils from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.
Theft: A Poland woman noticed her purse missing while shopping at a Doral Drive big-box store.
Theft/drugs: Steven P. Coast, 23, of Lakewood Road, and 24-year-old Franklin J. Hess Jr. of Pearson Street, were charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after $238 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart. The two Volant, Pa., men also had a hypodermic needle or a suspected crack-cocaine pipe, a report said. In addition, Coast was wanted on a Lawrence County, Pa., warrant.
Theft: While being booked at the Mahoning County jail on an unrelated charge, 29-year-old John C. Sigley of Matta Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in a Jan. 15 shoplifting situation at Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: A woman reported a $200 iPhone missing from her locker at a McClurg Road business.
Aggravated menacing: A 14-year-old township boy faced an aggravated-menacing charge after a North Jackson woman told police that three juveniles had threatened to harm her and her two children while in the Southern Park Mall parking lot.
Theft: Demitra J. Tate, 36, of Bellfield Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing about $114 worth of merchandise, including a bathing suit, from Kmart.
Theft: A $10 coat and two key rings were removed from a vehicle at a Boardman-Canfield Road gas station.
Harassment: An Eisenhower Drive woman and her husband reported having received such calls and text messages.
Theft: Stephanie J. Hernan, 33, of Huxley Road, Salem, surrendered on a felony-theft charge after a June 12 situation in which a Columbus woman reportedly bought a car for $1,500 before realizing a $3,000 lien was attached to the vehicle.
Theft: Daniel S. Karnofel of Homestead Avenue, Youngstown, was charged after an employee with Buffalo Wild Wings in Southern Park Mall alleged the 45-year-old Karnofel failed to pay his $26.75 food bill.
July 3
Harassment: An employee with a Southern Boulevard big-box store said she received such a call while at work.
Theft: A Boardman-Canfield Road man discovered roughly $414 worth of unauthorized charges to his checking account that had originated in Grove City, Ohio.
Domestic violence: Tiara M. Speller, 32, of Red Tail Hawk Drive, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her husband alleged that during an argument, Speller had pushed him against a wall, then pulled the accuser’s hooded sweatshirt over his head before striking his head with a hard object. The victim suffered a deep cut and swelling.
Theft: An 11-year-old Campbell boy was accused of stealing roughly $65 worth of items from Walmart.
Vandalism: A man driving near Glenwood Avenue and Sugarcane Drive told officers another motorist threw an object at his vehicle, resulting in $350 worth of damage to its front windshield.
Theft: Two bicycles were removed from a residence in the 8200 block of Southern Boulevard.
Fraud: A Wilda Avenue man applying for a $5,000 loan told police he had been instructed to first send four money orders to someone in Chicago, causing him to lose about $1,500.
Identity theft: A Locust Avenue woman checking her account online reported finding five fraudulent charges totaling about $371.
Theft: Someone removed a tarpaulin covering a truck at a home in the 3900 block of Risher Road.
Theft: A $25 metal hook was taken from a yard in the 4400 block of South Avenue.
July 4
Attempted burglary: A woman told authorities she saw a man trying to climb through a window to her apartment in the 100 block of Shields Road before he fled.
Arrest: Authorities near Midlothian Boulevard pulled over and took into custody 52-year-old Duane A. Ashford of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Youngstown. He was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
Arrests: While responding to a fight in the 100 block of Homestead Drive, authorities charged Danasha M. Ifft, 19, of Shields Road, Boardman, with domestic violence; Dawalyn M. Brown, 20, of Mill Creek Boulevard, Boardman, with simple assault; and Daniel J. Ifft, 37, of Omar Street, Struthers, with obstructing official business. One of the combatants reported having been struck with a purse and another alleged having been slammed into a car. Also, Daniel Ifft arrived a short time later and caused a disturbance, hindering officers’ investigation, a report showed.
Burglary: Took place in the 100 block of Mathews Road after a front door had been kicked open, though police were unable to determine the point of entry. Four cable boxes were missing.
Theft: A Caribou Drive woman noticed a 10-foot aluminum pole as well as a swimming-pool brush and skimmer missing from her backyard.
July 5
Burglary: To an apartment in the 5500 block of West Boulevard via a side window. Stolen were a Sony PlayStation 3 console and controller.
Assault: A woman told officers she was struck twice in the left cheek area while trying to mediate a dispute in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court.
Attempted burglary: Someone broke a door frame and handle to a residence in the 6400 block of Tara Drive in an apparently unsuccessful effort to break in.
Criminal damaging: A car in the 70 block of Maple Drive was found with a dent and a scratch on its front hood.
Criminal mischief: A woman leaving a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant saw that someone had placed landscaping rocks behind and in front of her car’s tires.
Arrest: Judy K. Hazimihalis, 57, of Park Drive, Campbell, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over near Market Street.
Domestic violence: Jason L. Wolfe, 32, of Shadyside Drive, Boardman, was charged after his wife alleged Wolfe had grabbed her, hit the accuser on the head and threw her to the ground during an argument that was apparently related to a text message he had received.
Misuse of a credit card: A Market Street woman learned that her stolen bank card had been used to make 20 unauthorized transactions.
Theft: A township woman reported her wallet stolen while at a Tiffany Boulevard big-box store.
Menacing: A Hopkins Road man said another man threatened to harm the accuser after he had corresponded with his former girlfriend via social media.
Theft: Edward L. Tate Jr., 20, of Manhattan Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with taking a $50 Bluetooth speaker from Walmart.
Drugs: A traffic stop on Midlothian Boulevard resulted in minor-misdemeanor citations charging a Mineral Ridge boy and a Brookfield boy, both 17, with having two bags of suspected marijuana and a device used to grind marijuana.
Theft: Antonio R. Rodriguez, 31, was charged after police alleged the Jersey City, N.J., man had stolen three boxes of shampoo from Walmart.
July 6
Theft: A woman in the 5100 block of West Boulevard reported her wallet had been removed from her car.
Arrest: While investigating a suspicious person in the 7200 block of Market Street, police took 20-year-old Jonathan G. Dill into custody. Dill, who listed Youngstown addresses on McGuffey Road and Belmont Avenue, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Theft: Isabella M. Iores, 21, was charged with theft after authorities alleged Iores, of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, had stolen $202 worth of merchandise, including a pair of jeans, from Dillard’s in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A woman reported about $2,040 worth of jewelry missing from her home in the 1300 block of St. Albans Drive.
Drugs: Officers charged Samantha L. Maxwell, 29, of Shields Road, Boardman, with possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments after having responded to a possible drug overdose. A hypodermic needle and a spoon with burn marks common in drug use were found, a report said.
Burglary: Occurred in the 60 block of Aylesboro Avenue. A woman reported various articles of clothing and pairs of shoes stolen.
Theft: Police charged 19-year-old Special L. Burgess of Risher Road, Boardman, with stealing $72.45 worth of merchandise from Kmart.
Theft: A woman discovered her $250 smartphone missing while at a business in the 8200 block of South Avenue.
Theft/criminal damaging: Someone cut then stole a catalytic converter from a Cadillac vehicle at a Market Street dealership.
Theft by deception: A manager with a Market Street pizzeria alleged an employee had made 230 fraudulent payments with a gift card over a four-month period, resulting in a $2,339 loss.
July 7
Arrest: Blaine M. Mochtyak of Tara Drive, Poland, faced charges of operating a vehicle impaired, resisting arrest and obstructing official business after police had pulled him over near South Avenue. The 22-year-old man refused to get out of his car and to comply with officers, a report showed.
Menacing: A Hillman Way woman alleged her former boyfriend and his mother threatened to harm the accuser and damage her vehicle.
