Youngstown elections board sets up smartphone app
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Board of Elections will have a free app for smartphones, starting Sept. 2, to provide information to voters.
The information on the app includes letting people know if they’re registered to vote, where to cast ballots – including directions how to get to polling places – as well as election schedules, and election results.
The board was going to pay $23,500 to a company based in Nepean, Ontario, Canada, to create the app, but will have the work done at no cost by CivicPlus, a Manhattan, Kan., company that is finalizing negotiations to redo the county’s website, said Joyce Kale-Pesta, the board’s director.
“We want to provide as much information as we can to our voters with this app,” she said at today’s board of elections meeting. “Not only will you find your voting location with this app, but it will tell you how to get there with Google Maps.”
