The Vindicator’s Greatest Scramble has an opening for two scramble teams in this years event.
Teams that have won a scramble that’s already been played this summer are eligible. If you’re a winning team or your scramble event takes place before Aug. 10, contact the Vindicator at greatest@vindy.com to be included in the Greatest Scramble.
Creekside beats Baird to even Class b series
Dan Klase tossed a complete game no-hitter and Creekside Fitness evened its Class b championship series with a 10-0 win over Baird Brothers on Monday at Cene Park.
Klase struck out six and walked four for Creekside, which will meet Baird on Wednesday on Cene 2 at 8 p.m.
Dom Pecchia led Creekside with three hits and two RBIs. Pad O’Shaughnessy hit a triple and a solo homer, scoring twice. Klase doubled, singled, drove in a run and scored a run.
Astros, Glaciers tied at 14-under
Nick Guarieri had four hits, including a double, with three RBIs and two runs to lead the Astro Falcons to a 10-3 victory over the Ohio Glaciers in Monday’s game in the 14-under championship series at Cene Park.
The win tied the series 1-1 with the series finale scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today at Cene 2.
Marco DeFacco had two hits and scored three times while Vince Armeni added two hits and a run for Astros. Corbin Foy went the distnace to get the win.
For Ohio, Mason Rose singled, doubled and drove in two runs.
YSU golf lands five on WGCA scholars list
CORAL SPRINGS, FLA.
The Youngstown State women’s golf team had five players named Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars.
The Penguins were Aislynn Merling, Allison Mitzel, Courtney Shutt, Emily Rohanna and Mia Barchetti.
Merling and Mitzel were also recognized as Academic All-Horizon League honorees.
A total of 758 women’s collegiate golfers received All-American Scholars honors. Student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 to be chosen.
Memorial bike ride set for Saturday
The fifth annual Larry Furniss memorial bike ride will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sunside Trailhead at Rt. 305 on the Western Reserve Greenway.
A Trek Electra Verse 21D bike, donated by Thumm’s Bike Shop, will be raffled off at the end of the day. All proceeds will be donated to the Western Reserve bike path.
Cavaliers add Mo Williams
CLEVELAND
Mo Williams is heading back to Cleveland to team up with LeBron James again.
Williams tweeted on Monday night that he is going back to the Cavaliers, where he was an All-Star playing alongside James in 2009. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.
Williams started last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves and was traded to the Charlotte Hornets, where he averaged 17.2 points in 27 games.
The Cavaliers were in need of a quality backup point guard with the ability to score behind starter Kyrie Irving.
Williams spent two and a half seasons with the Cavaliers before being traded to the Clippers in 2011. The contract cannot be signed until Thursday.
West takes minimum to join Spurs
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
David West is sacrificing millions to chase that elusive championship.
The veteran forward is taking a one-year, minimum salary contract worth $1.4 million to join the San Antonio Spurs.
West walked away from a $12 million pay day with the Indiana Pacers to chase a title with the Spurs in his 13th NBA season. He spent the previous four seasons in Indiana.
