Interim president for Lumen Christi Catholic Schools named

Bishop George V. Murry, S.J. has appointed Wallace Dunne as interim president of the Lumen Christi Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Youngstown, effective immediately. He replaces Dr. Lois Cavucci who resigned as President to accept a position with the Catholic Diocese of Venice, Fla.

Wally Dunne is a life-long devotee of Catholic education. He attended St. Patrick Elementary School in Youngstown followed by his high school years at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown. After graduating from John Carroll University in 1965, Dunne has served the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown in many capacities for 50 years.

During his 50 years of service, Dunne has taught at the elementary and high school levels as well as serving as an administrator K-12. He has also served as a Diocesan administrator including his roles as assistant superintendent, director of government programs, chair of scholarship committees and his current position as consultant to the Office of Catholic Schools. He has been a presenter at numerous national conferences, especially on the topic of school security, and has authored numerous articles.

Mr. Dunne will assume leadership of the day to day operations of Lumen Christi. Lumen Christi Catholic Schools consists of St. Christine in Youngstown, St. Charles in Boardman, Holy Family in Poland, St. Nicholas in Struthers, and St. Patrick in Hubbard. In addition it sponsors the Early Childhood Learning Centers at St. Luke’s in Boardman, St. Joseph in Austintown, St. Christine, and Holy Family. Its mission is to strengthen and grow Catholic education in the member schools.

The search for a new president will begin later this fall.
