Hundreds protest Youngstown Plan for city schools
YOUNGSTOWN
A couple hundred people gathered this afternoon, carrying signs that read “Save Our Schools” and “No More Charter Schools,” in protest of the Youngstown Plan that would appoint a CEO over the city school system.
Jaladah Aslam, president of the Youngstown-Warren Black Caucus, said Gov. John Kasich’s plan isn’t about what’s best for children, but an effort to provatize public education. State Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman said a meeting is planned for noon Monday to begin the process of coming up with an alternative plan for the city schools.
