Police search for suspect in East Side shooting

Police are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting on the East Side on Sunday afternoon.
The 38-year-old victim confronted the suspect at 1032 State St. over $500 that purportedly had been stolen from him. A police report states that the suspect, who had a rifle, became hostile and the two struggled. The rifle went off during the struggle, striking the hood of a car.
The suspect fled north behind the house when he heard sirens. With the Youngstown Fire Department, police entered the home and found a loaded assault rifle with blood on it. Police also found live ammunition in the living room of the house. Two shell casings were found on the road in front of the house along with a bloody flip-flop.
The suspect is a 21-year-old black male, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.
According to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV, the victim was not injured.
