Fire destroys house in Bristol
Staff report
BRISVOLVILLE
The one Bristol Township firefighter on duty when a 3:41 a.m. house fire was reported got into a firetruck and responded to a fire report at 1955 Greenville Road (state Route 88) just east of state Route 45.
When he got there, the garage and house were fully involved in fire, but he and the people who first spotted the fire and called 911 helped firefighter Brandon Quiggle remove the hoses from the firetruck so he could begin to attack the blaze.
Other firefighters from Champion, Mecca, West Farmington and Mesopotamia arrived later. The firefighter conducted a search of the residence because it was unclear whether anyone was inside.
Though the house had a for-sale sign in front and may have been empty, there were clothes on a clothesline outside.
Quiggle said no one was in the home and that the family living there was camping. They later contacted the department when they found the damaged house.
The home appears to be a total loss, Capt. Chuck Hudak said.
Investigators believe the fire started in the garage, but it’s too early to say what caused the fire, said Rick Cyphert, an investigator with the Trumbull County Fire Investigative Unit.
He was one of two investigators who was at the scene Sunday morning.
