WARREN

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $35,000 grant to Warren’s litter cleanups and tire-amnesty program.

“Warren has had a long-standing issue with illegal dumping, and it’s time for it to stop,” Mayor Doug Franklin said in a statement. “This grant will allow the city and its volunteer partners to clean up problem areas and initiate new litter prevention strategies.”

Such strategies include providing an environmental officer through the Warren Police Department along with the city’s use of surveillance cameras to identify those involved with illegal dumping.

The tire-amnesty program allows only Warren residents to dispose of scrap tires at no cost. The program started July 1 and will continue until funds are exhausted. Residents must show proof of residency with a valid ID and utility bill.

Each household is limited to five tires per month, which can be dropped off at the city’s Environmental Services Department using the South Park entrance from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call 330-841-2561.

The grant requires cleanups take place on public property with volunteers assisting. The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership with volunteers from neighborhood associations will assist with the cleanups. For information on cleanup dates and volunteering, call 330-599-9275.
