Two men in northeast Ohio spent part of the holiday weekend promoting safe and sober driving as a judge’s punishment for their repeated drunken driving offenses.

Ashtabula Municipal Court Judge Laura DiGiacomo ordered 48-year-old Jeffrey Yenyo and 54-year-old Marcus Perry to stand at an Ashtabula intersection Friday and Saturday evenings while holding handmade warning signs about drinking and driving.

Yenyo, of Geneva, has seven previous DUI charges. Perry, of Ashtabula, has two.

The men tell WJW-TV that the punishment was fair, and they hoped they could help stop others from making the mistakes they did.

The Star-Beacon in Ashtabula reports DiGiacomo says the creative sentencing was meant to send a message during the Fourth of July weekend.
