“Shark Trek” (8 p.m., Discovery Channel): Shark Week — It’s time once again to sink our teeth into television’s longest-running summer event. Now in its 28th year, this fin-tastic celebration of the mysterious creatures of the deep will feature 19 hours of original programming — the most ever. It all kicks off with “Shark Trek,” a documentary that follows a marine biologist as he tags great whites off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts and attempts to determine their swim patterns.

“Penny Dreadful” (10 p.m., Showtime): The chilling second season of “Penny Dreadful” comes to an end as Vanessa (Eva Green) relies on her strength in an attempt to defeat the demon. We’ll put our money on Vanessa and hope for the best.

“Halt and Catch Fire” (10 p.m., AMC): We’re worried about Gordon (Scoot McNairy) on “Halt and Catch Fire.” Having discovered that he has brain damage, he heads to California to reconnect with his brother and, apparently, tie up loose ends.
