Suspect arrested in shooting incident

CAMPBELL

Police arrested Marcus Powell, 45, of Campbell, in connection with a Friday-night shooting on Chambers Street.

Powell is accused of firing a handgun at a large group of fighting juveniles before he fled back into his residence at 150 Chambers St., according to a police report. No one was reported injured.

Multiple witnesses identified Powell as the shooter. Police found a shell casing on the street near the home and a black gun holster at Powell’s residence. No handguns were found.

Powell is charged with discharging a firearm on a prohibited premises, felonious assault with a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was taken to Mahoning County jail and is being held without bond pending a court appearance Tuesday.

Veterans rep to visit

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa.

Ryan Paglia, a veterans employment representative with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, will be visiting the Ellwood City office of state Rep. Jaret Gibbons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Paglia develops job and training opportunities for veterans, with special emphasis on veterans with service-connected disabilities. Employers who are interested in learning about veteran hiring incentives also are invited to attend.

Gibbons’ Ellwood City office is located at 438 Line Ave. No appointment is necessary.

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission, located in the Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Suite 100, will be closed Tuesday for staff training.

Women artists

YOUNGSTOWN

The YWCA of Youngstown, 25 W. Rayen Ave., is hosting the 33rd annual “Women Artists: A Celebration!” from noon to 4 p.m. through July 17. The show is free and open to the public.

Event for kids

NORTH LIMA

Woodworth Park, on Luther Avenue between Market Street and Southern Boulevard, will be the site of the seventh annual Kids’ Fund & Safety Day from 6 to 9 p.m. July 17.

Participating groups include Mahoning Valley Safe Kids Coalition, YMCA and Making Kids Count.

Activities include bounce-arounds, pony rides, face painting, train rides, hay rides, a petting zoo, Jocko the Clown and more. Admission is free.
