Bad start sends Scrappers to loss in Batavia

BATAVIA, N.Y.
Casey Shane’s short night on the mound led to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ 7-4 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs in Friday’s New York-Penn League action.
Shane (0-2) surrendered four runs in his one-and-two-thirds innings of work. He allowed four hits and walked three batters while striking out one.
The Scrappers (5-9) managed 10 hits against the Muckdogs (3-11), with Willi Castro, Ka’ai Tom, Austin Fisher and Connor Marabell each contributing two. One of Castro’s was a triple while Tom and Fisher each had doubles.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Muckdogs scored three times in their next at-bat. With two outs, Joseph Chavez and Anfernee Seymour drew walks, setting up Giovanni Alfonzo’s two-run double. Stone Garrett followed with a RBI triple for a 4-0 lead.
The Scrappers scored twice in the third inning. Castro singled to score Marabell from second base, then came home on Tom’s double.
In the sixth inning, Marabell scored again on Silento Sayles’ triple to slice the Muckdogs’ lead to 5-4. The Muckdogs responded with two more runs in their next at-bat to seal the victory.
Jordon Holloway (1-1) earned the victory, allowing four runs in his six innings on the mound. Steven Farnsworth earned the save.
