A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

June 26

Harassment: A West Water Street woman said her former boyfriend sent her a series of unwanted and derogatory text messages.

Theft: A Moore Street man reported an iPhone, a car key and a computer tablet stolen.

Identity fraud: A North Main Street woman told police she received a credit card for which she had never applied, along with a bill for about $1,264 worth of fraudulent charges that appeared to have been made in Mobile, Ala.

June 27

Possible burglary: Officers responded to suspicious activity at a home in the 200 block of Westview Avenue and discovered a screen door ajar and that a screen window had been cut, indicating someone may have tried to break in. Also, a metal box containing suspected drug paraphernalia was found.

Theft: Regis F. Celender, 33, of Youngstown-Hubbard Road, Hubbard, was charged with stealing a stick of deodorant and a set of earplugs from Dollar General, 886 W. Liberty St.

June 28

Criminal damaging: Someone at a park in the 400 block of Jones Street evidently set a cloth on fire, damaging a bench.

June 30

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed 58-year-old Anthony Phillips of Washington Avenue, Hubbard, to township authorities. He was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: A Ravine Drive man told officers that after having bought items at a recent auction, the seller refused to give him the merchandise.

Theft: A license plate and a taillight were removed from a trailer in a garage in the 700 block of Taylor Street.

LIBERTY

June 26

Identity fraud: A Logan Way woman found out someone without authorization had used her debit-card information to make $252 worth of fraudulent purchases at a big-box store in Dover, Del.

Aggravated menacing/trespassing: A Park Circle man alleged his former wife, of Niles, had entered his home without permission, then threatened to kill him.

Drugs: A suspicious vehicle in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue drew officers’ attention before they arrested 34-year-old Rachel E. Thomas of North St. Clair Avenue, Girard, on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Thomas, who also was wanted on a Mahoning County warrant, had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe, two spoons with burn marks common in drug use and four used hypodermic needles, a report stated.

June 27

Robbery: Samuel Levy, 34, of Youngstown, was charged with robbery, aggravated menacing and obstructing official business after roughly $60 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. In addition, Levy threatened to harm a loss-prevention official before breaking free and fleeing on a bicycle; he also refused to obey officers’ commands after having been apprehended, they alleged.

Theft: Two Youngstown boys, 16 and 17, along with a Girard boy, 17, and a Hubbard boy, also 17, faced charges of theft, criminal trespassing and being unruly juveniles after $15 worth of snack items was stolen from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave. The teens also violated curfew, and a witness alleged earlier that they had tried to break into vehicles, a report said.

June 28

Theft: A woman discovered $2,700 missing from her home in the 200 block of Trumbull Avenue.

Burglary: Someone entered a garage in the 3400 block of Logan Way and removed two tools.

June 29

Theft: A woman in the 2900 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road noticed that a cast-iron bathtub, a sink and other scrap-metal items have been disappearing from her yard.

June 30

Burglary: Took place in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive via a bedroom window. Stolen were $500, a flat-screen TV, an Xbox console and a pair of shoes.

Recovered property: A gun safe was found in a home in the 500 block of Ventura Drive, evidently after the tenant had left it.

Arrest: Police in the 2500 block of Belmont Avenue took into custody Heather L. Maravola of Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown. The 28-year-old Maravola was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

July 1

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue turned Derick Edwards over to Liberty authorities. Edwards, 45, of Idlewood Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a township warrant.

GIRARD

June 28

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicular accident on U.S. Route 422 before charging Evan G. Milka, 37, of Arms Boulevard, Niles, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Trespassing: A North Highland Avenue man alleged his landlord had entered his residence without permission when the accuser was out.

Assault: Three people reported having been assaulted during a fight at a party in the 200 block of South Market Street, including a woman who suffered an apparent foot fracture.

Animal complaint: A woman reported that while walking on South Davis Street, a dog bit her left leg, then ran into a wooded area. Her injury required 32 stitches and several rabies shots, a police report showed.

June 29

Harassment: A 12-year-old Girard girl noticed an inappropriate text message while borrowing her mother’s iPhone.

Incident: Police reported that the driver of a red Honda Sedan failed to pull over after they had tried to stop the motorist for traveling about 70 mph on Mosier Road, which has a speed limit of 25 mph.

June 30

Possible animal cruelty: A woman arrived at her Trumbull Avenue residence to find her dog deceased under what she felt were suspicious circumstances.
