I-70 East reopens near site of central Ohio tanker fire

COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says eastbound traffic headed toward Columbus on Interstate 70 is flowing again around the site of a damaged bridge in time for the city’s massive Fourth of July celebration.

A section of I-70 on the west side of the capital was closed after an overturned tanker truck carrying ethanol caught fire and damaged the bridge Wednesday. The state plans to replace the span over the next few weeks, at an estimated cost of up to $1 million.

Meanwhile, some westbound lanes of I-70 have been repurposed to carry eastbound traffic past the damaged area in narrow lanes. The patrol says that rearrangement was in place by noon today, hours before the nighttime fireworks show.
