Reports said a fire about 1:40 a.m. Thursday at a 2228 Montclair Ave. home caused $45,000 in damage. Reports said the home was vacant, but there was a “for sale” sign in the yard, and the fire appeared to have started in the front of the house. The cause is listed as under investigation.

Programs to be under new management

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Head Start and Early Head Start program is reportedly to be under new management effective July 31.

The Community Development Institute, which was appointed interim manager of the program by the federal Office of Head Start beginning Aug. 1, 2014, has notified vendors to terminate CDI’s account as of July 31 when CDI’s funding ends.

A spokeswoman for CDI said she was not authorized to identify Youngstown Head Start’s new program manager.

In a letter to vendors dated June 30, CDI advised them to submit any outstanding bills or invoices no later than Aug. 14. Also, CDI said it would not be responsible for payment on any goods or services billed after July 31.

Street closings planned for Warren parties

WARREN

Streets in Warren will be closed to accommodate three block parties in the city Saturday.

First Street Southwest at Wood Avenue and Sprint Street will be closed from 2 to 9 p.m.; Wilson Avenue Northwest will be closed at Rex Boulevard to Kinsman Street Northwest from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; and Burton Street Southeast at Duke Avenue Southeast and Niles Road Southeast will be closed from noon to 10 p.m.

Teen shot dead

WARREN

William Sullivan, 15, of Warren died Wednesday after he was shot in Ashtabula County over the weekend.

Sullivan was shot by his 15-year-old cousin at a home on Hayes Road in Wayne Township about 1 a.m. Saturday, according Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV. The incident is under investigation with a coroner’s ruling pending. No charges have been filed.

Pretrial hearing

CAMPBELL

The pretrial hearing for Trivonne Scott, 18, of Campbell, has been set for 9 a.m. next Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.

Scott faces charges of kidnapping, domestic violence and obstruction of justice. Police arrested Scott on Tuesday after authorities said he kicked, struck and shoved his 21-year-old girlfriend and refused to let her leave their Devitt Avenue home.
