SUMMA Health receives grant
AKRON
SUMMA Health Systems has been awarded $486,000 in federal funds for nurse education and retention.
The grant will help SUMMA meet its future staffing needs. It is estimated that by 2022, the United States will need more than 1 million new nurses, said U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th.
This award is funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
It is the primary federal agency for improving access to health care by strengthening the health care workforce, building healthy communities and achieving health equity.
HRSA’s programs provide health care to people who are geographically isolated, economically or medically vulnerable, Ryan said.
