STRUTHERS

The Struthers School Foundation for Educational Excellence elected new officers and trustees who will begin their terms Sept. 1.

Dexter Hollen will be president; JeriLyn Walsh, vice president; Michael Evanson, treasurer; and Dan Mamula, secretary.

The foundation elected Catherine Cercone Miller and Chuck Campbell to replace retiring trustees John Medvec and Janet Gerlac.

Gerlac agreed to continue serving in an ex- officio capacity, and Mevec’s family will continue to contribute to the Struthers Fourth of July parade, which the foundation sponsors.

Current trustees Evanson, Walsh, Mamula, Dave Howard and Marge Diorio will serve another two-year term as trustees.

Outgoing foundation president is Danny Thomas Jr.

The foundation formed in 2000 to sponsor extracurricular educational projects not funded by the Struthers school district.

Since 2003, it has awarded more than $70,000 in grants. Past grants have paid for materials including textbooks for low-achieving students, Nook tablets and Chromebook laptop computers.
