Girard police investigating dog's death
GIRARD — Police are investigating possible animal abuse in the death of dog found here Tuesday.
A Trumbull Avenue resident told police when she left for work Tuesday morning the dog was fine and chained to the back porch. The resident said, however, about 10 a.m., her daughter found the dog dead and hanging from the rear-porch banister.
The resident said she believes the dog could not have climbed up the banister on its own due to its small size, the length of the chain and the height of the banister.
Officer Scott Strain, however, noted in a police report he believes the dog may have climbed up the banister on its own.
The resident said she knows of no one in the neighborhood who might be responsible or who has ill will toward her family. She stated she came home around two weeks ago to find another one of her dogs was dead while chained in the back yard, but she assumed the dog died due to natural causes.
