HERMITAGEM, PA.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., invites all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, Venturing Scouts, leaders, alumni, and families to celebrate Boy Scout Sunday on Feb. 8.

There will be coffee, juice, and donuts at 10:30 a.m., and worship at 11.

All Scouts and leaders in uniform will receive a free patch from Pastor David Williamson, who serves as chaplain for Custaloga Town Scout Camp in northeast Mercer County each summer.

Feb. 8 is the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America.

Touch Heaven Canfield Church, 10 Skyline Drive, will conduct a prayer service from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and 6 to 8 a.m. Fridays.

Scouts lead service

YOUNGSTOWN

Boy Scouts and their families of Boy Scout Troop 55 and the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., will recognize the 105th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, which began on Feb. 8, 1910, and the 12th point of the Scout Law — A Scout is Reverent — during a service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Scouts will lead worship in terms of liturgy and reading of Scripture. A Scout will play the piano.

The preacher will be the Rev. Rusty Cowden, pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Warren and husband of the Rev. Carolyn Griffeth, interim pastor. The Rev. Mr. Cowden has been in Scouting all of his life and will receive the annual Souper Bowl offering. The donated canned goods, nonperishable food and monetary donations will be given to the Protestant Family Services food pantry.

There also will be a surprise special award presentation to one of the members of the troop.

Troop 55 will recognize its 85th anniversary during 2015; it was chartered in 1930 at First Christian Church in Youngstown with then Scoutmaster Fred Thomas.

Today, the troop is led by Scoutmaster Rich Cook, who has served for nine years.

‘Ohio Gathering’

YOUNGSTOWN

“The Ohio Gathering” is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Temple Deliverance Chapel of Ministry, 565 W. Myrtle Ave., on the theme “The Manifested Life.”

Host is Pastor Alice Bell Parkman of Christ Dwelling Place Ministry. Participants will be Bishop Nathan Robinson and Elder Jo Ann Robinson.
