New Bethel Baptist Church plans annual dinner

YOUNGSTOWN

New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will host the Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon Annual Church Dinner at 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at Mahoning Country Club, E. Liberty St., Girard.

Dinner reservations are $15. Call the church office at 330-747-2125. Deadline for reservations is Monday.

The program will pay tribute to the late Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon and focus on the accomplishments he made during the civil-rights movement and struggles for social justice.

A Legacy Award will be presented to two members.

The Rev. Bruce McLaurin of Cleveland will be guest speaker.

The congregation adopted its 2015 budget in the amount of $570,296.

Church officers for 2015 are: Michael Lyons, deacon board chairman; Ike Henry, general treasurer; Julius Livas, trustee board chairman; Reuben Gordon Sr., benevolent treasurer, Juanita Davis, church clerk; Jeanette Miller, deaconess board chairman; Lois York, church school superintendent; and Michael Lyons, Christian education director.

Newly elected deacons are Ronald Allen, Alvin Bellard, Kenneth Griffin, Roosevelt Harris, Michael Hill, Lorenzo Johnson, Robert Pinkard and Gary Vann.

Eve Griffin is a newly elected trustee. New deaconesses are Annie Anderson, Marilyn Brown, Cheryl Jackson and JoAnne Smith.
