Fitch student arrested for bringing loaded BB gun to school Friday

AUSTINTOWN

A student’s suspicion led to the arrest of a male Fitch High School student on charges of bringing a loaded BB gun to school Friday.

Superintendent Vincent Colaluca said the school district is “very pleased that a wise, young high-school student felt that there was something wrong going on” and told school officials.

Once alerted, “We looked into it, and we found the BB gun. So it was a very good process that worked for us,” he said.

The age or class of the student wasn’t known Friday. He was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

Officials with the justice center said charges will be made Monday, and then he will be arraigned.

A news release on the event said Austintown police, who are stationed at the school, were present when school officials found the BB gun in the student’s locker.

“They did their job when it came to a weapon at school,” Colaluca said of Austintown police.
