POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent police activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Jan. 21
Animal complaint: A Pawnee Place man reported a loose dog bit him, causing a minor injury.
Jan. 23
Arrest: A traffic stop on state Route 170 resulted in the arrest of 63-year-old Sue E. Thomas of Middletown Road, Poland, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.
Identity fraud: A Via Siena Drive man discovered his identity had been stolen.
Jan. 24
Criminal damaging: Someone drove over and damaged part of a lawn in the 3600 block of Polo Boulevard.
BOARDMAN
Jan. 21
Theft: Two $30 T-shirts were taken from Foot Locker in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Two township boys, 14 and 16, were accused in the theft of a bottle of liquor and a pair of sweatpants from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. The younger teen also was charged with possession of alcohol as a minor.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 400 block of Mathews Road was found with its driver’s-side tires slashed. Damage was estimated at $300.
Domestic violence: After pulling him over in the 800 block of Indianola Road, authorities charged 25-year-old Leslie J. Williams III of nearby Melrose Avenue, Boardman, with domestic violence and operating a vehicle impaired. Williams’ girlfriend alleged he had injured her, a report showed.
Theft: A man discovered his $600 iPhone missing while in the 7600 block of Market Street.
Harassment: A West Boulevard man said he’s received a series of unwanted calls and text messages.
Theft: A woman told officers a former tenant stole a refrigerator, light fixtures, blinds and other property from her rental property in the 30 block of Aylesboro Avenue.
Theft: Darlene M. Haffner, 35, of Indian Run Drive, Canfield, is charged with stealing 19 video games valued at $380 from Walmart.
Jan. 22
Bad check: An Aquadale Drive man told officers he received a suspicious check from Helendale, Calif., that led him to believe it was part of a scam.
Theft: A man left a South Avenue restaurant and discovered $288 missing from his car.
Theft: A man reportedly stole $150 worth of trading cards from Walmart.
Theft: A woman reported her $129 coat stolen from a locker at a McClurg Road business.
Theft by deception: An elderly Meadowbrook Avenue woman found out someone had removed $2,929 from her checking account via 12 unauthorized transactions. She later learned that two people reportedly had written checks against the account.
Theft: A Roeland Park, Kan., man told police a wallet, a Medicaid card and other items were missing from his elderly mother after she had visited a West Boulevard apartment.
Theft: A Colleen Drive man noticed his $200 smartphone missing.
Jan. 23
Arrest: Authorities took into custody a township boy, 14, at his residence on a pickup order from the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown accusing him of violating a court order.
Theft: Howland Township police relinquished custody of 36-year-old Frank J. Maggiano of Elm Road, Warren, who was accused of stealing two $50 pairs of shoes in a Dec. 20 shoplifting situation at Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: Youngstown police handed William J. Navarro, 37, of East Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. He was accused of stealing three articles of clothing Jan. 6 from Dillard’s in Southern Park Mall.
Assault: An Appleridge Drive woman told police her 15-year-old son had been assaulted during a confrontation at a McClurg Road business.
Identity theft: A Runnemede Drive man found out someone without permission had opened a credit-card account in his name.
Misuse of a credit card: A Westfield Drive woman discovered two unauthorized charges to her credit card that totaled $1,710.
Theft: A township woman reported her purse stolen while at a Market Street funeral home.
Theft: Brittany N. Gromley of Federal Street, Warren, was charged with taking five bottles of alcoholic beverages from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road. The 24-year-old Gromley also was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging theft.
Theft: A man and a woman reportedly stole numerous ceramic figurines from Amy’s Hallmark, 377 Boardman-Poland Road.
Jan. 24
Identity fraud: An elderly Wildwood Drive woman realized that her personal information had been used without permission to open an online account with a $1,257 balance.
Theft: A man wearing a phony police or security badge around his neck reportedly stole an MP3 player from Walmart.
Theft: Se’aira J. Kirkle, 20, of Cambridge Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of a $30 DVD player from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.
Drugs: Police answered a call pertaining to a stolen credit card being used at Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd., where they charged 32-year-old Dana R. Mastroianni of Linden Street, New Castle, Pa., with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Mastroianni, who also was wanted on a warrant charging passing a bad check, had a used syringe and a spoon with burn marks and suspected heroin residue, authorities alleged.
Misuse of a credit card: A worker for a Market Street care facility learned that her stolen card had been used to make a $402 unauthorized withdrawal.
Theft: A Lisbon man reported his wife’s purse stolen while at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery.
Theft: Police charged 22-year-old Cody A. Staufeneger of Monroe Street, Salem, in the theft of a deck of cards, a Bluetooth earpiece and other merchandise from Kmart.
Jan. 25
Arrest: A vehicle check near Shirley Road led to the arrest of 50-year-old Robin L. Betts when police learned Betts, of Penhale Avenue, Campbell, was wanted on a Girard warrant charging failure to appear in court. He also was cited on a charge of driving under suspension.
Theft: Two men stole $70 worth of merchandise from Family Dollar, 4028 Market St.
Theft: Harry P. Carcase III, 22, of Glenridge Road, Boardman, and 22-year-old Kayla M. Wisneski of Martin Road, Enon Valley, Pa., were charged in the theft of 10 DVDs, a folding knife and clothing from Kmart. Carcase also faced charges of possession of criminal tools and carrying a concealed weapon when, police said, he had a hidden folding knife.
Theft: A man took a 22-ounce bottle of beer from Havana House, 235 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Theft: Two women reported their purses stolen while at a South Avenue restaurant.
