On Dec. 14, members of the Penn-Ohio Singers gave a holiday performance for residents of the Greenbriar Healthcare Center, located at 8064 South Ave.

More than 30 residents and staff of the Greenbriar attended the show, during which the Penn-Ohio Singers performed such holiday songs as “Jingle Bells,” “Let it Snow,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Christmas Chopsticks,” “Silent Night,” “The Secret of Christmas” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

“We feel honored to have the opportunity to bring joy into someone’s life,” said Howland’s Ed Johnson, a member of the Penn-Ohio Singers. “Their applause and comments of how much they enjoyed our singing makes it worthwhile for all of us.

“Anytime the audience joins in and sings along, we consider it a success. And there were lots of ‘senior singers’ in the crowd.”

The Penn-Ohio Singers are a barbershop quarter that was formed in 1981. There are currently 30 members who come from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. The Penn-Ohio Singers average one performance per month, but do 80 to 100 every Valentine’s Day.

In addition to singing, the Penn-Ohio Singers actively support community service projects and local charities, and contribute many man hours to churches, hospitals, schools, nursing homes and retirement communities.

They are also proud of their support of the Harmony Foundation, whose mission is to preserve the Barbershop Musical Legacy through support of vocal music education in our schools.
