Youngstown, Cortland, Canfield among best Ohio places to retire

A study completed by SmartAsset, a data-gathering website on financial topics, places Cortland as the No. 1 place to retire in Ohio and Youngstown as the No. 2 place.
SmartAsset’s study ranking the best places to retire in Ohio looked at the following factors: income and sales tax; the number of doctors’ offices in the area; and opportunity for recreation and social life.
Cortland’s taxes are at 10.8 percent; it has 4.2 doctors’ offices per 1,000 people; 0.1 recreation centers per 1,000 people; 1.4 retirement centers per 1,000 people; and a 20.9 percent population of seniors.
Youngstown’s taxes are listed at 11.1 percent; the city has 5.1 doctors’ offices per 1,000 people; 0.3 recreation centers per 1,000 people; 0.8 retirement centers per 1,000 people; and a 15.9 percent population of seniors.
Canfield came in fifth on the list.
Other areas on the list include: Milford, North Canton, Dover, Chardon, Zanesville, Sandusky and Maumee.
Nationally, Youngstown ranks No. 188, and Cortland ranks No. 112.
