BGMS girls lost to Warren

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade girls lost to Warren by a score of 35-25. Cate Green led the Lady Spartans with 14 points. Kaylin Burkey added nine and Kailee James added two points.

BGMS boys basketball beats Warren White

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Warren White on Jan. 21 with a score of 43-31. The win improves Glenwood’s record to 4-4 on the season. Glenwood’s defense dominated the game propelling the team to a 21 point lead in the third quarter. Ryan Archey’s hot shooting in the first half led the team in scoring with 12, Nick Torres’ inside out game added 11 points, Che Trevena’s all around offensive and defensive game added six points, while chipping in with assists and steals for the Spartans. Jimmy Baker and Michael Fetsko added five points each. Daron Collins added a bucket and adding a make from the charity stripe were Nikitas Missos and Shay Eicher.

BHS boys defeat Canfield

The Boardman boys basketball team won its second consecutive game, beating Canfield on Jan. 20 with a score of 51-48 in overtime. In the first half, the team jumped o a 25-13 half time advantage. They played good team defense and shot the ball well in the first half, hitting six 3-pointers, finishing 10-15 from beyond the arc for the night. After the half, Canfield turned up the pressure and they were able to create some turnovers, which allowed them to get back into the game. They were back and forth throughout the fourth quarter when a Canfield player hit two free throws with no time on the clock to send the game to overtime. The team responded well to the adversity battled in overtime securing the victory. Sebastian Heinonen led Boardman with 13 points, including four consecutive free throws to win the game late in overtime. Brian Fryda had 11 points, Jon Michael Dana had 10 points and John Ryan added eight points.

BCMS girls have losses

On Jan. 12, the Boardman Center Middle School girls seventh-grade girls basketball team lost 9-16 to Austintown Red. Katie Demetrios scored six points, Marisa Melewski scored two and Kiley Williams had one point. On Jan. 14, the team lost to Warren 13-19. They held them in the first quarter, 2-0. They then pulled ahead in the second and third quarters, 7-11. Marisa Melewski, Tanna Ortega and Kiley Williams each scored four points and Katie Demetrios had one. On Jan. 15, Boardman Center fought hard against Austintown Blue. The game was neck-and-neck all four quarters. They came up short in the end, 14-19. Marisa Melewski had seven points, Katie Demetrios had four points, Tann Ortega scored two and Kiley Williams had one point.

Boardman defeats Austintown

Despite a slow start, only scoring three points in the first quarter, the Boardman varsity boys basketball team battled back and ended up with a 45-37 victory. The team’s aggressiveness and defensive effort in the second half was the difference in the game. Gannon Murray had a great game scoring and creating for his team-mates, finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Brian Fryda had a huge night with five 3-pointers and 16 points, overall.

BCMS boys basketball has win against AMS Blue

The Boardman Center Middle School boys seventh-grade basketball team picked up a big win on the road on Jan. 15 at Austintown Blue. The final score was 44-40. At the half, Center was trailing by seven. The boys then responded with a 20 point third quarter. Scorers for the Spartans were Wrentie Martin (12), Charlie Davis (10), Derrick Anderson, Tyler Peterson and Griffin Schantz (each with 6), Justin Cina (4) and Jimmy Goske (free throw).

BCMS boys fall to AMS Blue

Boardman Center Middle School’s eighth-grade boys basketball fell to Austintown Blue 43-28 on Jan. 15. Center trailed by four at halftime, but a 16-5 third quarter pushed AMS Blue ahead for good. Mikey Morris led the Spartans in scoring with 6. Joey Ieraci, Brandon Kuehn and Cam Kreps each added five points. Bobby Caviler scored four, while Tino Aruci added three and Luke Stauffer added two.

BGMS girls defeat West Branch

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade girls defeated the West Branch Lady Warriors by a score of 29-23. Kaylin Burkey led the Lady Spartans with 10 points. Cate Green added six points, Jenna Bunko chipped in with five, Kailee James had four and Brooke Hoffman chipped in with two. Ali Swavel also contributed with a clutch 10 foot jump shot late in the fourth quarter to put the Lady Spartans in control for good. BGMS also had strong defensive efforts from Mara Hierro, Mitzie Martin, Hannah Nawrocki, Emily Carnahan and Harley Realty.

BGMS topples Warren Gold

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team recently defeated the previously undefeated Warren Gold team 22-20 in an absolute battle at Warren. The team overcame a talented team while playing their third game in four nights. The Spartans shut out the Raiders in the second quarter and kept Warren to 12 points in the second half. The boys sacrificed their stats to control tempo and slow the pace of the game. Ryan Archey led all scorers with nine points. Nick Torres scored five points, had five blocks and many rebounds against the frontline. Che Trevena played a great game at point guard, scoring four points and assisting for other scores. Daron Collins had two steals that lead to his four points on breakaway lay ups.

Eighth-grade boys lose to AMS Blue

The Boardman Glenwood Midde School eighth-grade boys dropped to 2-4 on the season at Austintown Blue on Jan. 14. The Spartans fell into an early deficit as shots were not falling in the first half and fell by the score of 39-24. Boardman Glenwood was led in scoring by Nick Torres, Michael Fetsko and Ryan Archey, each with six points. Shay Eicher added four and Daron Collins chipped in with a good defensive effort and two points.

BCMS seventh-graders fall to AMS Red

The Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team fell to 5-2 on the year with a loss at home against Austintown Red 41-34 on Jan. 12. Scorers for the Sspartans were Wrentie Martin (10), Derrick Anderson (8), Tyler Peterson (6), Charlie Davis (4), Griffin Schantz (3), Hayden Lyda (2) and Jimmy Goske with a free throw.

The Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team beat Warren White on Jan. 14 with a score of 33-25. Scorers for the Spartans were Charlie Davis (12), Wrentie Martin (7), Derrick Anderson and Griffin Schantz (both with 4), and Jimmy Goske and Tyler Peterson (3 points each).

BCMS boys basketball topples Warren White

The Boardman Center Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Warren White 40-27 on Jan. 14. A strong defensive first half jumped started the Spartans to the victory. Boardman maintained a 20-2 lead a few minutes before halftime. Bobby Cavalier and Cam Kreps were leading scorers with 10 points each. Brandon Kuehn added nine, Joey Ieraci went 6-6 from the free throw line for all of his points, Luke Stauffer added a 3-pointer and Tino Arcuri scored a bucket and had four rebounds.

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade girls gave their best effort of the season but came up short to the Austintown Middle School blue team by a score of 40-33. Kaylin Burkey led the Lady Spartans with 14 points. Cate Green added eight points and Brooke Hoffman chipped in with four. Emily Carnahan, Jenna Benko, Emily Carnahan and Kailee James each had two points.

BCMS girls defeat Warren

The Boardman Center eighth-grade girls basketball team recently defeated Warren by the score of 40-34. Alicia Saxton led the scoring with 23 points. followed by Ali Kuras with seven points. Ashley Saxton and Cailyn Covan had three points each, and Maya Stinson and Kaia Anderson both scored two points.
