UPDATE | Beware of icy roads; police report 2 dead in accident

Some freezing rain and drizzle are icing roads and keeping police throughout the Valley busy.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting two people have died in a traffic accident on Mahoning Avenue near Turner Road.

In another accident, Boardman police are on scene after observing an accident involving a car and a mail truck on the 800 block of Shields Road.

Freezing rain and drizzle should let up around noon. The National Weather Service is lifting its winter weather advisory at that time.

“It should lighten up by noon,” said Sarah Jamison, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Cleveland. “There might be some light drizzle in the afternoon, but it’s not accumulating.”

The temperature will reach a high of 36 degrees this afternoon with light drizzle on and off, she said.

“Another gloomy day” is how Jamison described today.

Light rain will turn to “very light snow” after 11 p.m. with accumulations of about 1 to 2 inches, she said. The snow should stop around 10 a.m. Friday.
