Trumbull grand jury won't hear case of detective who fired shots at man

WARREN — The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office will not present information to a county grand jury regarding the shots fired by Lordstown Police Detective Chris Bordonaro at Lordstown resident George Rafidi on Oct. 8 at Rafidi’s home, the prosecutor’s office says.

A press release from the prosecutor’s office says “there is nothing that could be presented to a grand jury because there were no crimes committed by anyone other than George Rafidi, who is now under federal indictment.”

Witness statements from numerous law enforcement officers indicated that Special Agent Robert Springer of the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced “police with a warrant” loud enough for anyone in the house to hear after knocking at the door.

Bordonaro fired four times after Rafidi came to the door and pointed a handgun at Springer and other officers, the press release says.
